Céad míle fáilte. I would like to welcome you to the St. Mary’s Boys’ National School website. St. Mary’s is a Catholic vertical primary school (Junior Infants to sixth class) situated in Lucan Village (St. Mary’s Parish) and is ten kilometres west of Dublin city centre. Our school was founded in 1864 and was originally located beside St. Mary’s Church. We moved to a new five classroom school on our current site on Chapel Hill in 1965 and have since grown to twenty classrooms with 524 boys and 40 staff.
We promote a positive culture amongst all of the children and adults in our school. Our positive culture is based on the Christian values of respect, honesty, kindness, tolerance and happiness. We celebrate all of the unique talents displayed by our children. We are a Catholic school and operate under the patronage of the Archbishop of Dublin. As part of this ethos we pride ourselves as being a caring and inclusive school, rooted in the local parish community. Parents/guardians, school staff and St. Mary’s Parish work together in providing a child-centred education which includes preparation for the sacraments.
Boys are offered a broad and balanced curriculum with a focus on quality teaching and learning and with opportunities for every boy to experience success across a range of subjects. The broad development of the individual is at the core of our school ethos. We strive to prepare boys with the essential life skills each boy will need to fully participate in society.
We have a very good rapport with parents/guardians and have a supportive Parents’ Association. Effective communication is very important to us. All our families receive a weekly newsletter through our school app and teachers maintain communicate with home via Aladdin and Google Classroom.
Our facilities include twenty classrooms equipped with the latest high-tech interactive touchscreen boards, air purifiers and CO2 monitors. We have eight resource rooms and a sensory room that cater for children who have learning difficulties and special needs. Our school grounds include two football pitches, three distinctive play areas, a small sports hall, an astro covered enclosed play area with climbing wall, sports wall and basketball court. We have invested in over 50 iPads that are shared between classes. We have kitchen facilities for cooking lessons and science and access to the River Liffey and woods for nature studies, science and art.
Please take the time to learn more about St. Mary’s BNS through our website and I look forward to meeting you in the future.
