Dear Parents,

St Mary’s BNS and Scoil Mhuire GNS Sports Day – Sunday, 14th June at 2pm

Sports Day is Coming Up: Mark your calendars! Get ready for an afternoon full of excitement at our annual Sports Day! There will be something for everyone — classic races, fun games, inflatables, penalty shootout and the ever-popular tuck shop will be back in action! Always a highlight of the school calendar, Sports Day brings our whole community together—from our newest incoming junior infants to the 6th Class boys preparing to say farewell to primary school.

Entry is €15 per family, payable in cash at the gate on the day or via the Aladdin payment link, which will go live next week. A full schedule of events will be sent home on the Friday before Sports Day, including race times so you can plan your day.

We Need You! To help make the day run smoothly, the Parents’ Association is looking for six volunteers from each class to lend a hand for just 30 minutes. It’s a great way to be part of the fun while supporting the school community. See link below so you can sign up to help on the day, you will be able to choose a time slot and station that works for you!

First Holy Communion

Well done to our second class boys who made their First Holy Communion last Saturday in St. Mary’s Church. Thanks to Mr. Walsh, Ms. Norris and Mr. Monaghan, Belinda Murphy and Cat Boyd for all their hard work. We are also grateful to our choir from third class and some boys from the older classes who have put in a lot of practice with Aideen Cooney in recent weeks. Thanks to our Parents’ Association who provided refreshments in our school hall after the Communion.

Science Foundation Ireland: Curious Minds Award

We recently found out that our school has been awarded a Gold Award from Science Foundation Ireland for our engagement in STEM learning activities throughout the year. They provided us with the following feedback for our log of evidence:

“Congratulations to the staff and students in St. Mary's BNS in Lucan on delivering an excellent log of your Curious Minds experiences this year. The log clearly demonstrates evidence of an impressive range of STEM engagement across the school, incorporating guest speakers, STEM Weeks, and experiments. It was fantastic to see the range of technological activities happening in the school - taking part in Microsoft Dream Space, making stop motion videos, and making vlogs for the school's own news station! Inviting parents into the class who are engineers is a brilliant way to boost engagement with and enjoyment of engineering in a familiar way! Keep up this fantastic work and well done on your award! It is a real credit to the pupils, teachers and whole school community.”

A huge thanks to Ms Whitney for driving this STEM activity within St Mary’s.

Castle Cup Golf Success

A huge congratulations to our golf team; Donnacha Bolger, James Geraghty, Harry Higgins and Pearce O’Connor, who captured the prestigious Castle Cup on Monday – a golf tournament for primary schools throughout Dublin. It’s the fourth time St Mary’s have captured the title; hosted in Rathfarnham’s Castle Golf Club. A huge thanks to teachers Mr Keegan, Mr Lynch and Mr Walsh who organised the qualifying events in the lead up to Monday’s success.

Leinster Hurling Final - Dublin vs Galway

Excitement is building as the Dublin hurlers prepare for a Leinster Final against Galway on Saturday 6th June. Past-pupil John Bellew played a starring role last Sunday in Dublin’s defeat of Kilkenny scoring two first half points. He’s joined by Lucan Sarsfields team-mates, captain Chris Crummey and Cathal Kennedy. We wish them every success as they chase a Leinster title.

Our own Jamie Donnelly will represent Cumann na mBunscol Áth Cliath in the half-time game that evening too in Croke Park, after a brilliant season with our Senior Hurling Squad in St Mary’s. Good luck Jamie!
