Dear Parents,
‘No Smartphone Code’ Survey
The potential harm caused by social media on children’s mental health has been well-documented. Last year our Parents’ Association agreed to implement a ‘No Smartphone Code’ encouraging parents to delay the purchase of a smartphone or smartwatch. Having buy-in from the majority of parents will help you to stand up to the pester power from your children. This is a timely survey as boys are putting together a Christmas list.
We plan to send all parents a Google Form tomorrow asking you to agree or disagree with delaying the purchase of a smartphone for your son until he leaves primary school. All responses to this Google Form will be kept anonymous.
Maths Week 2025
This week we are celebrating Maths Week in our school. Daily maths jokes and riddles have been called out over the intercom and all classes are busy doing a variety of maths activities. Some of our senior classes teamed up with the junior classes to teach them and play maths games.
On Tuesday Mr. Shanahan’s sixth class put on a fantastic display of maths activities for all classes to enjoy. They welcomed the second class girls from Scoil Mhuire to take part too. It was a fun day for all. Well done to Mr. Shanahan and his class for doing such a great job.
We will continue our celebration of Maths Week tomorrow as we hand out prizes and certificates for ‘Mathematician of the Week’ in each class. Well done to all of the boys on their great work and participation in Maths Week 2025. Make sure to have a look at our Facebook page to see some of the maths activities in action. Thanks to Ms. Whitney for organising our Maths Week and thanks again to Mr. Shanahan and all his sixth class boys.

Our Parents’ Association have produced a Christmas Calendar as a school fundraiser. The cost of the calendar is €15. The calendar includes a photo of your son with his class. Our school secretary will upload an online payment link on Aladdin tomorrow. The closing date for orders will be Friday 28th November at 3pm. Please see the attached sample of our Christmas Calendar.

Roselawn junction with Lucan Road
Please remind your son to take care if walking or cycling across the road at the junction between Roselawn and the Lucan Road. This is a busy junction with many cars driving to Coláiste Phádraig CBS in the morning.
Cultural Awareness
This week we learned about Poland. Antoni Wlodarski, Dawid Wisz, Filip Pokorowski, Alexander Zielinski and Tim Pikor entertained us with facts and figures about Poland and some of the boys recited poems and phrases in Polish.
Badminton
History was made yesterday with our very first competitive badminton team in St. Mary’s. Well done to Ahmad Asif, Daniel Limmy, Tanay Jadar, Jordan Binoy, Joe Cowap, Reagan Jimmy, Ethan Thom and Ayan Uppalapati who represented our school in a tournament which took place in the Sports Amenities Centre in Leixlip. Some of the boys qualified for the Leinster finals. Thanks to Mr. Keegan for organising this event. Please check out their team photo on our school Facebook page.
