Dear Parents,

Susan Mullan – Former Treasurer of the Board of Management

I would like to thank our former Treasurer, Susan Mullan, for all the time and effort that she volunteered as Treasurer of our Board of Management. We are very grateful to Susan for all her help and advice with our school finances. Susan was one of the parents’ representatives (mother’s rep) on the Board. We are now seeking a nominee to replace Susan. Please see the attached note for more information.

Readalong

Our last week of Readalong has been a great success. The younger boys loved paired reading with the older classes this week. Keep an eye out on Facebook for some pictures. The boys continued reading books through the book swap, which they thoroughly enjoyed. Classes wrote book reviews and designed the book covers of their favourite books. All boys benefitted greatly from their DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) time each day. Boys from senior infants to second class have been reading a page of their favourite book for us all week on the intercom. A payment link has been sent to all parents and we would greatly appreciate if you could contribute towards this crucial fundraiser for our boys by tomorrow Friday 23rd January. Thanks to Ms. Donnelly, Ms. Russell, Ms. Quinn and Ms. Kenny for all their work with this initiative.

Anne-Marie Whitney – Assistant Principal One Appointment

Congrats to Anne-Marie Whitney who was promoted to Assistant Principal. Ms. Whitney has been working in our school for the past 18 years and has made a significant contribution to a wide range of school activities, especially the development of Maths and Science. Ms. Whitney continues to play a key role in supporting and mentoring newly qualified teachers and we would like to wish her the best in her new role.

Food Dudes

The final day of the Food Dudes programme for senior students was last Monday. The senior students will move onto phase 2 of the programme where the onus will be placed on pupils to follow the healthy eating journey. All pupils should be encouraged to bring in their own fruit and veg from home to consume as part of their school lunch.

The juniors will continue on until Wednesday 4th February with variety of new fruits and vegetables.

Cultural Awareness

We learned so much about Brazil last week. Arthur Martins gave us some interesting facts about the country. Noah Chigwedere read from a book written in Portuguese which tied in with our Readalong initiative.
