Dear Parents,

Readalong

Our first week of Readalong has been a great success. The boys are really enjoying their DEAR (drop everything and read) time each day. The book swap is proving to be very successful, with boys getting the opportunity to read books which they would not have at home. Yesterday all boys were treated to a puppet show. The junior classes saw ‘Jacqueline and the Beanstalk’, while the senior classes enjoyed ‘Send in the Clowns’. The cost of this (€1,250) will be covered by the money raised by the boys. A scavenger hunt took place today for the junior infants, senior infants and first class. The student council boys helped each class to find specified words in book titles. All boys really enjoyed this activity. Boys from 3rd to 6th class have been entertaining us all week on the intercom, by reading a page from their favourite book. We look forward to our final week of Readalong next week. A payment link will be sent to parents tomorrow and we would greatly appreciate all sponsorship. Thanks to Ms. Donnelly, Ms. Russell, Ms. Quinn and Ms. Kenny for organising this event.

Lost and Found

We have a large number of items in our Lost and Found. These include school jumpers and tracksuit tops, coats, hats, gloves, scarves, bike helmets and football boots. Next Wednesday, these items will be laid out in the school hall from 1:45pm to 3pm and on Thursday morning from 8:45am to 9am for boys and parents to come and retrieve anything they may have lost. After this time, the school jumpers and tracksuit tops will be kept in school for anyone to take as needed and the non-school items will be donated to a local charity. Thanks to Ms. Geraghty for organising this initiative.

This is also a reminder to please label all of your son's belongings.

Food Dudes

This week the students from Junior Infants to Sixth class began the Food Dudes programme. Throughout the week the boys were tasting a variety of fruit and vegetables; apples, satsuma, cherry tomato, blueberries, cucumber and carrot. The boys have made a great effort trying some healthy new fruits and vegetables and have received Food Dude stickers and rewards for their efforts. The Junior programme will continue until the 4th February and the senior programme will finish on the 19th January. Thanks to Mr. Shannon for co-ordinating this programme.
