Dear Parents,

‘No Smartphone Code’ Survey

Thanks to everyone who completed our ‘No Smartphone Code’ survey to delay the purchase of a smartphone or smartwatch. Having buy-in from the majority of parents will help you to stand up to the pester power from your children. We received 160 responses with 3 people who disagreed. This gives us 98.1% in favour of delaying the purchase of a smartphone.

Christmas Calendar – Orders expected on the 18th December

Thanks to everyone who purchased and supported our Parents’ Association Christmas Calendar fundraiser. We hope that all orders will be delivered to our school by the 18th December.

Nativity Plays – Junior and Senior Infant classes

Well done to all our infant classes for putting on a great show for their Nativity Plays. Thanks to all our class teachers, SET and SNAs for all their hard work. We are very grateful to Alice Norris for accompanying the boys on piano. We really appreciate Karen Kyne for designing many of our costumes.

Christmas Concert – Wednesday 17th December

Best of luck to Ms. Hunston with her Christmas Concert on Wednesday 17th December. The boys in Ms. Staunton’s fourth class and Mr. McHugh’s third class with help from some of the older boys have been rehearsing and practicing for this performance.

Sixth class ‘Scavenger Hunt’

Our sixth class boys had a ‘scavenger hunt’ in the city centre yesterday. Thanks to Mr. Clandillon and Mr. Shanahan for organising this event and for planting all the clues around the city centre. We are very grateful to Ms. Grall, Ms. Murray, Mr Shannon and Teresa Munnelly for all their help.

Christmas Door Decorations – closing date is Friday 12th December

Thanks to Theresa Ellis (mother of Oisín in Mr. Lynch’s fourth class) from our PA for putting posters together and giving teachers some ideas in how to decorate their classroom door. Teresa is an art teacher and we are very grateful to her for taking the time to judge the Christmas door decorations on Friday 12th December.

Pyjama Day for the whole school on Thursday 18th December

All boys are encouraged to wear their pyjamas on Thursday 18th December. This was normally just for infant classes to celebrate the end of their Nativity plays but we have decided to extend the invite to the whole school. This will coincide nicely with Santa’s visit and the hot chocolate provided by the PA from the scout’s den.

Christmas Jumper Day for St. Vincent de Paul on Friday 19th December - €2 donation

All boys are asked to wear Christmas jumpers and/or Santa hats on Friday 19th December in aid of St. Vincent de Paul. Unfortunately, some families struggle at this time of the year and St. Vincent de Paul provide supports for the underprivileged in our society.

Children and non-members of staff are not permitted to walk through the staff car park

For health and safety reasons, children and non-members of staff are not permitted to walk through the staff car park within school hours.

Cultural Awareness

We learned so much about Moldova and Romania on Friday. We combined these neighbouring countries because their languages are quite similar. Artemii Bumbu and David Burlac’s parents were born in Moldova. Artemii recited a poem and gave some facts about Moldova. David shared some interesting insights too.

Matei Gabor recited a poem about a Christmas tree and Ioan Gabor read a poem about ants in Romanian. Leonard Gabor, Thiago Hainal, Aidan Quinn and Denis Petrisor gave some useful phrases in Romanian and some more great facts about Romania.

Le dea-ghuí,
