24-January-25

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year! I hope everyone enjoyed their Christmas.

Cold Weather

Thanks for all your support during this cold spell of weather. Please take care coming to school and ensure that your son wraps up well coming to school with a hat, scarf and gloves. We are very grateful to our school caretaker, Donie Gaire, for checking our heating system over the holidays and for spreading salt on some of the surfaces on our grounds.

Healthy Lunch Policy

Our hot lunches are still very popular with the boys at big break. We have noticed an increase in the number of sweets, crisps, treats and fizzy drinks that boys are bringing to school for small break. Treats are only allowed on Fridays and we ask that this be limited to a mini-size bar of chocolate. Please read our attached Healthy Lunch Policy.

Readalong

Readalong 2025 will begin on Monday 13th January and will run for two weeks until Friday 24th January. The sponsorship money has already been included in the donation requested at the start of the school year. As a result, the boys will not be asked to complete a sponsorship card.

Readalong will include activities such as paired reading with other classes, DEAR (drop everything and read) time, design a book cover, a scavenger book hunt and a book swap. Please see the calendar enclosed for more details on these activities.

We are asking for your help with the book swap! Parents are asked to send in books with their son, for a book swap in the classroom. Please write your son’s name on the inside cover of the books. Feel free to send as many books as possible. These books will be used as library books for the boys to read in class and as part of their homework. A book swap record sheet will be given to your son. All books will be returned to school on Friday 24th January and will then be returned to their owners. Thanks to Ms. Donnelly, Ms. Brennan and Ms. Russell for organising this initiative.

S-Cool News

The latest edition of our ‘S-Cool News’ can be viewed on our school Facebook page and school website. This feature gives updates on current school events and is totally child led with no input from teachers or adults. Thanks to Mr. Clandillon, Mr Shanahan and Ms. Hennessy for putting this presentation together.

Free Walk-In Clinic

As you know, we as a school, have done our part to prevent the winter flu by organising a free nasal flu vaccines in our school hall a few months ago. Due to the rise in flu circulating within the community currently, the HSE are running an additional walk in LAIV Flu Vaccination Clinic this Saturday 11th of January from 10am – 4pm in Clondalkin Primary Care Centre for anyone who did not avail of the service already.

Le dea-ghuí,

Dara Burke, Principal.
