Dear Parents,
Limiting access to school building during the school day
All school staff attended an inservice on child protection recently. We are trying to limit access to our school building to all adults who are not vetted. Parents are welcome as far as the secretary’s office if you need to collect your son during the school day to sign him in or out. Parents who drop their son to our Oasis special class will need to be vetted.
Readalong
Thanks again to everyone for engaging with our ‘Readalong’ fundraiser. We hope that this initiative will encourage boys to read more while raising some well-needed funds for our school. Please remember to bring a book or books into class for our book swap. Thanks to Ms. Donnelly, Ms. Russell, Ms. Quinn and Ms. Kenny for organising this event.
Food Dudes starts Tuesday 13th January
Our Food Dudes Programme will commence on Tuesday 13th January. The aim of the Food Dudes programme is to encourage children to try fruit and vegetables and develop a taste for them. They also come to see themselves as healthy eaters who enjoy fruit and vegetables. The programme takes only a small amount of time during the school day but can result in lasting health benefits for all who participate. There are two levels of participation in the programme:
Junior classes (Infants to 1st Class): 16 consecutive school days, with a sticker chart to track progress, plus videos and other resources.
Senior classes (2nd to 6th Class): 5 consecutive school days, with a daily video and accompanying activities.
All pupils receive free fruit and vegetables every day during their participation and are given four small eco-friendly rewards to encourage them. Please note that fruit and vegetables are provided in compostable packaging.
Please read the attached note for more information.
Mr. Rory McHugh – All-Ireland Junior club hurling final
Mr. McHugh plays with the Sligo Senior hurling team. Best of luck to Mr. McHugh and his club team, Easkey, who play against Kilbrittain from Co. Cork in the All-Ireland Junior Club Hurling final in Croke Park on Sunday at 3.15pm. This game will be televised live on TG4.
Unclaimed scooters
There are a number of unclaimed scooters that have been lying at the side of our school for the past number of weeks. Please look at the attached photo and check to see if one of these scooters belong to your son. Parents will be given until Tuesday 13th January to reclaim one of these scooters before we donate them to charity.
Le dea-ghuí,
Dara Burke, Principal.
