13-June-25

Dear Parents,

Annual Art Exhibition after school from 1.40pm to 8pm

Please take the time to visit our art exhibition after school today (open until 8pm). Every boy has displayed one sample of their art and craft that they produced during the year. There is also an impressive slide show in the school with photos of the boys holding their works of art. Thanks to Ms. Clarke, Ms. Hunston and all our SNAs for putting this display together.

Sports Day – Sunday, 8 June at 2pm

Our School Sports Day is this Sunday, 8th June at 2pm in the grounds of our school. The cost is €15 per family, and if you have both boys and girls, you only pay once.Parents can pay online via Aladdin in either school up until midnight Thursday (5th June). Alternatively, parents can pay CASH ONLY AT THE GATE on the day.

After being so well received in previous years, the tuck shop is back again this Sunday with small treats and bars selling for €1 and drinks at €2. Cash only.

Volunteers Needed!

To help the day run smoothly, we’re asking parents to volunteer just 30 minutes of their time to help supervise one of the activity stations. We’ve already filled about 65% of the slots but we still need around 25 more parents to step up. If you can help, please complete your details on this link to Sign Up Genius

Please find a full schedule of our track events attached to this newsletter and don’t forget your potato and spoon or the sunscreen.

Cultural Awareness

We were delighted to welcome Aedan Forster, Conor Higgins, James Nicholson and Elliot Miles to educate us about England, Scotland and Wales last Thursday. Aedan treated us to some historical facts about Stonehenge, William the Conqueror and the development of London as a city down through the ages. Conor Higgins told us all about the famous English playwrights and poets such as William Shakespeare, William Wordsworth and John Keats. He then recited the poem ‘If’ by Rudyard Kipling which offered boys and staff some great advice about life. James Nicholson reminded us of great Scots such as William Wallace, Robert Burns, Gavin Hastings and Kenny Daglish. James recited a Scottish poem by his Grandfather, Iain Crichton Smith called ‘The Beginning of a new Song’. This poem was read aloud at the Opening Ceremony of the Scottish Parliament in 1999. Elliot Miles spoke some Welsh and named some famous sports personalities from Wales such as Aluwyn Jones and Gareth Bale.

Hurling

Best of luck to our hurling teams from third and fourth and class who play in the Lucan Sarsfields School’s Hurling Blitz today. We also have our fingers crossed that our senior hurling team will beat St. Mary’s BNS Rathfarnham in the Division 1 semi-final of the Herald Cup. Thanks to Mr. Clandillon, Mr. Keegan, Mr. Shanahan, Mr. Walsh, Mr. O’Brien, Mr McHugh and Ms. Ryan for all the time and effort they give to training the boys.

Le dea-ghuí,

Dara Burke, Principal.
