Dear Parents,
Additional text for Admissions Policy
Our patron has asked us to inform parents and staff that we are instructed to add the following text to our Admissions Policy in accordance with circular 75/2022. This consultation process must be completed before the 20th December so please let me know if you have any issue with the following text before this date. This must be approved by our patron by the 31st January 2023 and published on the School website. The text reads as follows:
St. Mary’s BNS will cooperate with the National Council for Special Education (NCSE) in the performance by the Council of its functions under the Education for Persons with Special Educational Needs Act 2004 in relation to the provision of education to children with special educational needs, including in particular by the provision and operation of a special class or classes when requested to do so by the Council. St. Mary’s BNS will comply with any direction served on the board or the patron under section 37A and 67(4)(b).
Reindeer Food and Raffle Tickets – New Christmas Fundraiser – Christmas Disco Cancellation
Unfortunately, due to various logistical reasons, the Christmas Disco for the boys due to be held on 18th December has been cancelled. The Parents’ Association (PA) are very sorry for this and we know that the boys may be disappointed to hear this news. The PA hope to be in a position to run something fun for the boys in the New Year. Apologies again and many thanks to the many parents who volunteered to be available to help on the day.
The PA will, however, be adding to the Christmas spirit about the school with the sale of reindeer food and a Christmas raffle will be organised for each class. Reindeer food (€3) and raffle tickets (€2 per strip) will go on sale next Wednesday the 14th December.
Nativity Plays
Our Junior Infants, Senior Infants and first class boys have been working hard practicing for their plays. We look forward to seeing them next week.
Registration for First Holy Communion
Our second class boys received a letter yesterday from Fr. Philip Curran in St. Mary’s Church. Registration is now open on the parish website, www.lucanparish.com , and should be completed by the end of December. The boys are encouraged to attend the Family Mass in St. Mary’s Church at 10.30 to prepare for this Sacrament.
Mr. Dineen’s sixth class writing display
Mr. Dineen’s sixth class have displayed some of their samples of ‘Persuasive’ writing along our school corridor. The boys came up with some very interesting arguments. The content is very informative and well-presented, with neat handwriting. We look forward to seeing a display from Ms. Hennessy’s fifth class at the end of the month.
Christmas Annuals – €4 in school office
Our Christmas Annuals are now on sale in the school office for €4. ‘Súgradh’ is for Junior and Senior Infants. ‘Spraoi’ is for 1st and 2nd class. ‘Siamsa’ is for 3rd and 4th class and ‘Sonas’ is for 5th and 6th class. The annuals are full of activities, jokes, quizzes, crosswords, word searches, interviews and stories.

S-Cool News
We are looking forward to our next episode of our S-Cool News which will be aired before the Christmas holiday. This was very popular last month. Thanks to Mr. Clandillon, Mr. Dineen and Ms. Hennessy.
Chess
We look forward to another term of chess after Christmas. Well done to Eoin Gleeson who won the recent school competition. Thanks to Ms. Cribbon for running these classes. Please check out some of their photos on our school Facebook page.
Second-hand Piano
We are trying to find a good home for a second-hand piano that is in good condition. If you or someone you know is interested then please let us know. You would need to provide your own transportation.
Second-hand Bicycle
A former parent would like to donate a second-hand bike which would be suitable for a boy aged between 7 and 9 years of age. Please contact the school if you are interested.
Le dea-ghuí,
Dara Burke, Principal.
