Dear Parents,

Wellbeing Week

There has been a great buzz around the school as we celebrate Wellbeing Week this week. The boys in Junior Infants, Senior Infants and First Class brought their teddies to school and participated in a teddy bear meditation exercise. The whole school went outside at 10.30am on Tuesday for 10 minutes of physical activity to music. The Senior Classes are planning PE lessons for the Junior Classes. This is a really nice opportunity for the older boys to teach the younger boys some new skills. Classes are also pairing up at different stages during the week for activities such as paired reading and local walks. A huge thank you to Susanne Lynch who has been so generous with her time. Susanne has taken all of the classes from 2nd – 6th for Pound exercise classes. This is a type of cardio exercise using ripstix. It is a fun and energetic way to exercise to music. You can find out more on Susanne’s page ‘FitHit’ on Facebook or Instagram. There have also been lots of opportunities for mindfulness colouring, yoga, keeping a wellbeing journal and lots more. We hope the boys enjoy the week and take away some positive tips for looking after their wellbeing. Thanks to Ms. Friel for organising this event.

Readalong fundraiser

We are organising a Readalong which will commence on Tuesday 7th February. It will be a whole school project and it will last for four weeks, finishing on Friday 3rd March. This will coincide with World Book Day, which takes place on Thursday 2nd March. The children will be encouraged to read as many books as they can in this space of time. It is hoped that the Readalong will improve literacy in our school, as well as raising valuable funds. There will more information next week.

Cycling for fifth class

Fifth class boys will have cycle safety classes starting on Monday 30th January. Please encourage your son to bring his own bicycle and helmet to school if you think it is safe to do so. There will be a number of bikes and helmets to borrow on the day.

An Entrance Exam will take place this Saturday 28th January from 9am to 11am. Boys need to be there at 8.45am to be ready to start at 9. They will need to bring headphones and a pencil. For more information please contact CBS on 01-6282299.

LCC are holding their Entrance Exam on Wednesday 1st February 2023 from 9.30am to 12.00pm. Tests are online and students should bring a wired headset with them (3.5mm). For more information please contact LCC on 01-6282077.

New Bug Hotel thanks to Jeremiah John

We received a new Bug Hotel during the week. This is thanks to Jeremiah John (Ms. Copley’s first class) who entered a competition organised by the Education for Sustainable Development section of the Department of Education. They had an exhibition at the BT Young Scientist Award in the RDS recently. Our Green School’s Committee will be delighted with this gift.
