Thursday Letter 24.11.22

01-December-22

Dear Parents,

Dates for the Diary

School will close at 1.55pm today for our Parent/Teacher meetings.

School will close at 11.50am for infants and 12pm for first to sixth class on Friday 25th November for staff inservice.

Science Week

Ms. Hennessy’s fifth class organised a fantastic interactive science display in the school yesterday. Some of the classes visited the school hall to see amazing experiments. The boys devoted a lot of time to designing their posters that explained their experiments in great detail. Thanks to Paul Dillon (father of James in Mr. Clandillon’s sixth class) who has agreed to visit our school tomorrow to give some science lessons to the boys.

Wet mornings

We will continue to open our doors to all the boys at 8.45am when it is very wet and they can walk straight to class. Thanks to everyone who co-operated this morning. Unfortunately there was table tennis in the hall and many teachers had parent/teacher meetings in their class so boys were asked to wait patiently along the corridors. It may be a good idea to send a second pair of socks and shoes with your son to school so that they can change when they get to class.

Basketball for fifth and sixth class

Our fifth and sixth class boys are enjoying their five weekly sessions of basketball. This initiative is organised in conjunction with South Dublin County Council. The cost of this activity is approximately €400 and we are very grateful to our Parents’ Association (PA) who have agreed to cover this fee.

Donation of 13 footballs

We are very grateful to Thomas Woods (father of Cillian in Ms. Ward’s Junior Infants) for donating 13 new footballs to our school. They will be a great addition to our sports equipment.

School Disco fundraiser – Sunday 18th December – Tickets €5

Our school disco will take place on Sunday 18th December. Boys from first, second and third class will have their disco from 3 to 4pm. Boys from fourth, fifth and sixth class will have their disco from 4.30 to 6pm.

National Parents’ Council (NPC): Developing an agreement with your children for using the internet - Free virtual sessions for parents

The NPC is organising an online course entitled ‘Developing an agreement with your children for using the internet - Free virtual sessions for parents’. Each virtual session aims to give parents information and skills to be able to engage in your children’s online lives. It covers the benefits and risks of the internet and provides hints and tips for parents, helping children be effective, responsible and safer Internet users. At the end of the session, parents will also be provided with a specially designed template to enable them to work with their children to form an agreement for internet usage.

The sessions will be taking place online via Zoom from the 28th November to the 7th December. The time slots are listed below:

28th, 29th, 30th November and 1st, 5th, 6th December at 10am and 7.30ppm

2nd and 7th December at 10am

All the information you require is provided below.

“While the internet undoubtedly presents fantastic opportunities for children, it is equally clear that there are valid concerns about children spending too much time online, accessing inappropriate content, and communicating with people with intent to harm or exploit them. As parents our natural desire is to keep our children safe.”

3rd & 4th Class Gaelic Football Blitz

Best of luck to our three junior teams who will take part in the Lucan Schools 3rd & 4th Class Blitz on Tuesday 29th November from 12 to 2.15pm. Thanks to Alan O’Neill and Stephen O’Shaughnessy from Lucan Sarsfields for organising this competition and to Mr. Reynolds, Mr. Clandillon, Mr. Keegan, Mr. Dineen, Mr. Walsh and Mr. O’Brien for helping out with the teams.

Le dea-ghuí,
