Dear Parents,
Comprehension Strategy, Writing Genre and PE Strand
We are taking a whole school approach to writing genre, comprehension strategies and our PE strand. This month we will focus on ‘Narrative’ as our writing genre. ‘Questioning’ will be our comprehension strategy. We look forward to seeing a display from Ms. Hennessy’s fifth class. We will focus on the strand of Dance in PE.
First Class Christmas Concert
Unfortunately our current first class boys missed out on doing the Nativity play in Junior and Senior Infants due to Covid-19. As a result, the first class teachers have organised a short Christmas concert this year. This will take place on Monday 19th of December at 1.15pm. As all three classes will be together, it will take place in the Scouts Den, just opposite the school building. If you are able to attend, the boys can go home with you after but they are also free to stay in school until the normal time of 2:40pm.
The boys should come to school in their school uniform on the day but bring in Christmas jumpers and hats or any green/red clothing. Please make sure anything they bring in is clearly labelled. Many thanks to Ms. Geraghty, Ms. Copley, Ms. Ryan, Karen Kyne, Debbie Kerkman and Mary Dwyer for helping to organise this event.
Dates for the Nativity Play
We are delighted to welcome back our annual Nativity Plays. Unfortunately we have had to cancel this performance for the past two years because of Covid 19 restrictions. Please note the following dates and times for performances which will take place in the school hall:
Tuesday 13th December at 11am: Ms. Friel’s Junior Infants
Thursday 15th December at 11am: Ms. Brennan’s Junior Infants
Thursday 15th December at 1pm: Ms. Killane’s Senior Infants
Friday 16th December at 11am: Ms. Ward’s Junior Infants
Friday 16th December at 1pm: Ms. Maguire’s Senior Infants
School Disco fundraiser – Sunday 18th December – Tickets €5
Our school disco will take place on Sunday 18th December. There has been a slight change to the start times. Boys from first, second and third class will have their disco from 5 to 6pm. Boys from fourth, fifth and sixth class will have their disco from 6.30 to 8pm.
National Children’s Choir (NCC) Practice
Our fourth and fifth class boys are practicing for the National Children’s Choir. The boys travelled to St. Finian’s National School for a practice in their school hall today. Unfortunately our hall is too small to accommodate such an event. The boys are preparing for their big performance which usually takes place in May in the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght. Thanks to Mr. Keegan, Ms. Hunston, Ms. Murray, Ms. Hennessy, Mr. O’Brien, Ms. Quinn and Mr. Lynch for organising this programme.
Gaelic Football Blitz
Our three junior football teams took part in the blitz competition on Tuesday against local schools in Lucan and all our teams played very well. Thanks to Alan O’Neill from Lucan Sarsfields for organising this competition and to Mr. Keegan, Mr. Walsh and Mr. O’Brien for helping out with the teams.
Le dea-ghuí,
Dara Burke, Principal
