Principal’s Letter 2.09.21

Dear Parents,

I hope that you and your family had an enjoyable summer break and that you are looking forward to the year ahead. We are delighted to be back at school and we anticipate a happy and successful year for the boys.

New Staff Appointments

This year we are very pleased to welcome back Ms. Emily Ward who will continue to teach Senior Infants. Ms. Leah Hennessy, who worked with sixth class last year, is working with sixth class again this year. Ms. Sarah Kenrick, who worked with us last year, will be teaching fifth class. Ms. Aimee Donovan will continue to work in SET and she will be joined by Ms. Áine O’Brien, Ms. Emma Ryan and Ms. Ciara McGrath. I would also like to welcome back Rachael Kilroy to our SNA team and Marian Hennessy.

School Opening and Closing times

As you are aware, in order to comply with health advice in relation to social distancing, we have retained staggered opening and closing times. We kindly remind parents to observe social distancing when picking up and dropping off children and to wear a face covering when on school grounds. Please encourage boys from Senior Infants to sixth class to walk on their own from the school gate to their classroom. Please remember that non-members of staff are not permitted to enter the school building without a prior appointment.

School Improvements:

Throughout the summer holiday, a number of improvements were made to the school building and grounds:

  • We ordered 18 new iPads to add to the 14 existing iPads. This was funded by our Bob-a-Job money and the money that was raised by INTEL. Thanks to Mr. Clandillon and Ms. Friel for organising this order.
  • The toilet block in the old school building was improved with new flooring, fixtures and fittings.
  • The old caretaker’s shed was converted into two new SET rooms.
  • A new caretaker’s shed was installed at the back of the school
  • All window sills and reveals were painted.
  • The white plinth on the top floor and middle floor were painted.
  • The pebble dash around the front gate and the pebble dash wall leading to the junior yard was painted.
  • All the windows were washed and cleaned inside and out.
  • New floor to ceiling storage units have been installed in three classrooms.

Our caretaker, Donie Gaire, deserves a lot of credit for the school improvements.

Junior Infants

On behalf of everyone at St. Mary’s BNS, I wish to extend a warm welcome to our new Junior Infants and their parents who joined our school community this week. It was a big day for the boys on their first official day at school on Tuesday and I was delighted to see them settle in so well. We look forward to seeing them grow and progress in the school. We have a temporary corridor in place for parents using bollards at the school gate so that parents can make their way to the main entrance each morning. Many thanks to Ms. Russell and Ms. Maguire for inviting the Junior Infant parents to visit their classrooms in small groups of five on Monday.

Google Classroom

Each student has been invited to a new Google Classroom for the current year. Your son’s Google Classroom invitation can be found by logging back into Google Classroom on any device or through your son’s Gmail inbox, which is in the format: If you have any issues accessing his Google Classroom, please email

Aladdin Connect

We ask all parents of new students to please download the Aladdin Connect App and register with our school so that you will be kept up-to-date with any important information. If your phone number, postal address or email address has changed since last year then please edit your profile. The Thursday Letter will be published on Aladdin Connect each week.

We are now accepting enrolments for Junior Infants for September 2022. If you wish to enrol your younger son for next year then please download the application form from the home page on our school website. The closing date for applications is Friday 19th November 2021 at 3pm.
