I hope that you and your family had an enjoyable summer break and that you are looking forward to the year ahead. All the boys look well-rested and we anticipate that this is the beginning of a successful and happy school year. This year we are delighted to be joined by two newly appointed teachers: Mr. Shanahan and Ms. Copley who will join our Special Educational Team (SET) in Learning Support. Janet Neville-Thompson joins our wonderful team of Inclusion Support Assistants (previously known as Special Needs Assistants or SNAs).
We have added two new resource rooms over the summer months. This is a welcome addition to our school as we have been short of space. We are delighted that the build has been completed on time and that the younger boys can resume playing on the Junior Yard. Three classrooms have been refurbished and painted. Our reception area (inside the main door) has also been painted. In the past twelve months the classrooms on the top floor have all been painted a uniform colour and three of the rooms now have new marmoleum on the floors.
Throughout the summer much progress has been made on our school grounds and I would like to thank our caretaker, Christy Byrne, for his hard work. We are also very grateful to our cleaning staff, Bernie, Marion, Nora, Aileen and Dolores, who worked diligently to have our school ready for today.
Junior Yard – Morning Supervision Reminder
All boys from Junior Infants, Senior Infants and First Class must be accompanied by a parent, relative or childminder from 8.45 to 9am.
Designated Aistear Room
This year the infant classes will have a designated room for Aistear. This is an initiative designed by the National Council of Currriclum and Assessment (NCCA). Aistear is primarily learning and developing through play based on various themes. Each infant class will be given a time slot in the Aistear room on a daily basis. Please donate the following items to enrich our new Aistear Room:

Homework Club will start on Monday 3rd September from 2.40 to 3.40pm every Monday to Thursday in Ms. O’Malley’s room 16. This will be offered to boys from 2nd to 6th class. Boys may attend on a monthly, weekly or daily basis. There will be a discount for those who prefer to pay monthly. Please register your son on firstname.lastname@example.org. This is a great opportunity for your son to complete his homework with the support of a class teacher.
Up the Dubs!
All boys from Senior Infants to 6th class are encouraged to wear blue to school tomorrow to support the Dublin Gaelic football team who are aiming to win four All-Irelands in a row. We wish Jim Gavin and all his players the best of luck.
Ryan Wade – Taekwondo Blue Belt
Ryan Wade brought a fistful of medals to school today. Ryan is also the proud owner of a blue belt in taekwondo.
I am fortunate to lead a great school with a committed and hard-working staff and well-behaved pupils and I hope that the forthcoming year will bring more productivity and success. Parental engagement and communication is vital to the successful running of our school: please keep in touch with suggestions for improvement and do not hesitate to let me know of any issues arising.
Dara Burke, Principal.
