Dear Parents,

In-service for new Child Protection Procedures – Half Day on Friday 23rd February at 12pm

There is a staff in-service on Child Protection Procedures for staff on Friday 23rd February. School will close at 12pm on this day.

‘Readalong’ – 5th February to 2nd March

As you know, our annual ‘Readalong’ commenced on Monday 5th February and will run for four weeks until the 2nd March which will coincide with World Book Week. We are very grateful to Ms. Corry and Ms. Russell for organising this initiative. I hope the boys are enjoying reading their books and that they are remembering to fill out their sponsorship cards. The Scholastic Book Fair is finishing tomorrow so boys have one more day on which to buy a book. Thanks to Ms. Teehan and her class for all their work.

Cake Sale – Friday 27th April

This year’s fundraising cake sale will take place on Friday 27th April 2018 – we are holding the cake sale after Easter so as not to clash with other school events. As in previous years we plan to hold two raffles – a family and a separate raffle for the boys. This is where we really need your help. Should you have any connections with local businesses or indeed be in business yourself, we would be very grateful for any donations of prizes for both these raffles. No prize is too big or too small. We will accept anything from an Easter Egg to a weekend break. Please email the parents association at  cakesale2018@gmail.com (or indeed contact Mr Burke directly) with details of any prize you may be in a position to offer. As always thank you for your continued support.

School Quiz Team

Our school quiz teams continue to impress as our u-13 team qualified for the next round of Dublin South County Libraries Quiz last Friday. We wish Jamie Boyne, Shane Wallace, Tyler Rocamora (Ms. Teehan’s 6th class) and Eoin McGarty (Ms. O’Malley’s 5th class) the best of luck in the final which will take place in Tallaght tomorrow at 10am. Our u-13 and u-11 teams have progressed to the next round of the Credit Union quiz which will take place in Kilnamanagh on the 4th March. Thanks to Mr. Clandillon and Ms. Byrne for organising the event.

The Active School Flag

All boys will continue to practice their dance routines in their classrooms tomorrow for their 9@9.

Engineer’s Week – 24th February to 2nd March

We hope to mark Engineer’s Week from the 24th February to the 2nd March. Denis Kelly (father of Robbie and Daragh Kelly) is a qualified engineer and has kindly offered to put a programme together for the senior classes during a school day for Engineer’s Week. Regina Briscoe (mother of Dylan in 4th class) and Mike Reed (father of Josh in 1st class and Ethan in 3rd class) and Séadhna Hannon (father of Nathan in Junior Infants) who are also qualified engineers have kindly volunteered to help Denis.

Cross Country

Well done to our cross country team who represented our school at the South County Dublin competition in Griffeen Valley Park yesterday. Fifty boys from 3rd to 6th class took part in races covering distances from 400m to 700m in very tough conditions. We are very proud of all our athletes with most scoring points for our team. We were so impressed with James Rance (6th) and Bill Donovan who won their races. James Kirwan (5th), James Dunne (4th), Gavin Lynch (4th) and Charlie Mooney (5th) placed second in their races. Cillian Coffey (6th), Massimo Pappalrdo (5th), Alex Leonard (4th) and Aidan Doyle (3rd) placed third in their races. We do not have a full break down of all the results yet but we are really looking forward to the next competition on 7th March.

Sherpa – 15th and 16th February

Sherpa are providing a Sports Camp facility in our school on the 15th and 16th February which coincides with the mid-term break. Please contact Emma at 085-8703362 for more information.

Ash Wednesday – 13th February

All boys from 2nd to 6th will attend Mass on Ash Wednesday next week at 11am to mark the beginning of Lent.

Le dea-ghuí,

Dara Burke, Principal.
